A book, chocolates and miserable weather.....!

Freezing wind and falling rain
so
 I sit here with these

But it is very hard to read
when your face is awash with tears

and they have been flowing almost since I opened the first page of this
incredible, amazing, beautiful book!

I have also giggled,
climbed barbed wire fences to grab an apple or two
and tasted every bite

I have learned about fear, anger, bigotry and hate
I have learned about friendship, love, honesty and decency

I have indulged in words, wonderful, magical words
I have drowned in words that made my heart sing
I have walked with death for 584 pages
and I could not stop!

I honestly do not know what else to say about this book
except that I loved every word

"It was Monday and they walked
on a tightrope to the sun"
                               Markus Zusak

Have you read it?

*I do like to recommend books if I love them
but I don't know if you like my taste
and if you don't it is rather a waste of time and I will find something else!!!!!

So

If you haven't and you do because of this post
please come back and let me know what you thought

    1. As a writer he is really appealing to me Jane...I have also just finished his The Messenger, totally different style and story line but with similar messages. He is quirky and easy reading but with lots of depth. I will be searching out all he has written. Happy reading J

  3. Dearest Jules,

Well, I envy you - not for the rain but for being able to sit and read while indulging on Chocolates.
    Love and hugs to you,

    1. An easier, quicker read is his book the Messenger which I read first and enjoyed just as much though in a totally different way!!!

  5. Wow - what a recommendation - I better add it to my list. I have seen it reviewed a few times and thought, hmm...sounds interesting.

Have just finessed that ridiculous 50 Shades. I just had to find out why it was a best seller. So badly written, such an irritating plot. Obviously I am on my own here - or it wouldn't be in the top 10. But really....I struggled to finish it. Felt like it was written to be a movie script rather than literature.

But I love the idea of reading a good book with a box of chocolates!! xx

    1. I'm afraid I haven't succumbed to 50 shades and probably won't....though I may have to see what the fuss is all about one day and there in lies the answer to it's popularity!!!!! Strangely most people seem to think it is badly written but they read and recommend it anyway!!! Did you read all three? xx

  7. I trust you implicitly Jules, so it's on my list. It will make a nice change from 'A Retrospective Study Of Ejection Fraction & Left Ventricular Function.' Too bloody boring for my own good!

    1. Oh Millie I think I just might have to read "A retrospective Study etc" I need a boring read to send me to sleep!!!!!!!!! Alas I once did the production work on a magazine called Modern Medicine and now they tell me I suffer from medical student syndrome!!!!! (know too much but not enough!!!!) Don't read, watch or listen to anything medical any more! Happy reading and let me know what you think Jules xx

  8. Oh, yes! Read it and loved it -- even without any fancy chocolates to keep me company. (I may have to go read it again...)

  9. I enjoyed the Book Thief so much as well. The words that have been chosen to to write make this book come alive so much. the happiness, fear, heart ache ... I hope that humanity does not have to suffer these again. Cannot believe that it was written for young readers ... I need to read again to pick up on the finer details I missed the first time. I loved it.

  18. Jules I am excited to read this book! With Kindle it is really nice that you can read 2-3 chapters free before you purchase. Like you, I am not always sure if someone else has the same taste in reading!

Sorry to be so remiss. It is almost a year that my new hip has not healed; 2more surgeries, the joint dislocated etc. Hoping to begin rehab the first part of November. Staying positive as possible!

  19. Karena I am so sorry to hear about your hip hope it is successful this time round!
As to my taste in reading I'm afraid it is a bit all over the place as I love the classics, mysteries, horror, science fiction, romance etc!!! If the writing is readable and the story even vaguely compelling I read it...but...I tend only to recommend those that really grab me!!!
Good luck with the op and it is lovely to see you here even though I have also been missing in action!!
